I recently took part in The 100 Day Project – a global art project where you commit to doing a specific creative thing everyday for 100 days.
I’ve started this project before in previous years but got side tracked and never finished so I was determined to make it through all 100 days this time. My previous attempts had taught me that I needed to spend time thinking about my project and what I would do, so I made a list of possible topics and put that to my faithful newsletter subscribers. Smart people that they are chose mushrooms! I was delighted.
I am a big mushroom fan and mushrooms made the perfect topic for my project as they cover a range of subjects that I like to draw; food, nature, patterns and stories. I could illustrate a recipe one day and a children’s story the next – I figured variety was the key to sticking with this for 100 days!
My aim was to experiment. To try something different each day. A different style, a different subject and different medium. Over the course of the 100 days I drew, painted, sculpted, folded paper, worked with copper and made mushrooms on the beach!
Here are a few of my favourites from the project:
I have made the collection into an art book and if you would like your own copy they are available to buy from my Etsy shop
