Recently I teamed up with marketing agency Awemous to create and teach a course for artists that covers everything creatives need to know about building a brand, creating a website and getting to grips with social media to promote their artwork.
The first run of the course happened over four Wednesday evenings in early July at the very beautiful Phoenix Studio in Towersey Oxfordshire and we taught 15 fantastic artists all about using the power of the web to promote their work!
The first part of the course focused on the artist’s brand – what makes their artwork unique and how they can communicate that to the outside world. Together we created moodboards, audience profiles, mission statements and a super useful list of keywords that acted as signposts for everything else we covered on the course.
We then moved onto a live web build using WordPress where we got to grips with sizing images for the web, buying domain names and hosting as well as how to structure your site with pages, posts and custom menus.
In the final two weeks we covered social media and how to use it effectively and without it taking over your life. We talked about selling online and all the options available for that from Etsy and Not On The High Street to print on demand sites and selling via your own website and finally we discussed blogging, email newsletters and how to use PR to get your work covered by online press and blogs! We crammed a lot into the four weeks that’s for sure!
