Tips for printing my Instant Download printable products

I sell a range of products that you can print yourself at home or take to a local professional printer or print shop. The range includes calendars and planners, prints, recipe cards and seasonal items. The prints make fab last minute gifts, especially if you get them framed. You can see the full range in my Etsy shop

Here are my top tips for getting the best out of these products:

Ordering

  • My printables are set up to European paper sizes and are either A2 (420 x 594 mm or 16.5 x 23.4 in), A3 (420mm x 297 or 16.5in x 11.7in),  A4 (297mm x 21omm or 11.7in x 8.3in) or A5 (210mm x 148mm or 8.3in x 5.8in). Refer to the individual listings for the specific size of that design.
  • My printable planners are not editable. They are designed to be printed out and written on.
  • Once you have placed your order you will receive an email from Etsy. This will go to the email address connected with your Etsy account so please double check this is right before you order.
  • The email will contain a link to download your files. Follow the instructions in this email and save the pdf file to your computer
  • You will need a pdf reader to open the file. If you haven’t got one you can download Adobe Acrobat Reader for free at http://www.adobe.com/products/reader

Printing at home

  • If you are printing at home I recommend using the thickest paper or card stock you can put through your printer – you may need to refer to your manual or online help to find out this information.
  • Ensure you select “fit to page” or similar in your printer settings to allow to the particular borders of your printer. Strange cropping of the artwork can occur if this isn’t checked.
  • If you would prefer to print to US letter or alternative formats then you simply select this in your printer settings and select ‘fit to page’ or similar. You may need to trim the sides of the print.
  • It can be fun to experiment with different types and colours of paper. I like to print my art prints on hessian or canvas textured card stock. Planners and calendars should be printed on uncoated paper so you can write on them. There are many kinds of paper available and it’s worth having a play with them to see which you like best.

Professional printing

  • For professional printing, I recommend using a local commercial printer, high street print and copy shop on an online printer. They will be able to handle the high-resolution pdf files on their commercial laser printers and may be able to use thicker paper or card than your home printer.
  • Simply save the PDF file to a disc or memory stick and take to your chosen printers. Or you can email the file to them or upload to their online system.
  • Make you sure to confirm with them what size you’d like your final print to be.

Scaling/editing

  • My files are built to be scaled so if you would like to print them a little larger then they should work just fine. For instance, the A4s should print to A3 without too many problems. Just ask your printer or adjust your home printer settings.
  • The PDF files are saved with a level of security that prevents copying and editing. This can cause issues with some printer’s systems. If this happens, don’t panic just get in touch with me and I’ll sort it out for you.

Sharing & blogs

  • If you purchase a printable file and would like to share a picture of the finished product on a blog, website, or social media please give credit to Sam Osborne Store on Etsy and provide this web address as a link > https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/SamOsborneStore <
  • And don’t forget to let me know as well, I’d love to see and I’ll help promote your blog.
