Creative Freelancing is a battle of Angels and Demons

Creative Freelancing Inspiration and Self Doubt Illustration Sam Osborne

Emotional ups and downs are a pretty standard part of being creative, but freelancing can take that to a whole new level if you aren’t careful.

There are those blissful moments when the inspiration fairy decides to hang out with you. Covered in rainbows and sparkles, the fairy whispers that awesome idea into your ear and suddenly you can’t work fast enough. You feel on top of your game and indestructible. Like a creative colossus.

And then there are the other moments. The moments when the self doubt devils creep up and whisper nasty things in your ear. They are lying toe-rags but they sneak up when you are most vulnerable (usually around 2am) and can reduce you to a useless puddle in seconds. Little bastards.

I can swing between the two of these in a matter of hours.

Somedays I wish I had a boss to tell me it was all OK and I was doing alright. And maybe give me a half day…

Creative Life is a series of illustrations documenting my experience of being a creative freelancer and working from home. The good and the bad.
